Perhaps not really a sculpture, but the process is the same so I suppose it could be.

My idea originally was to hollow out a marble pebble with the idea of putting a light inside to make it glow at night. I got the idea while finishing off the white marble love snakes late one evening as the setting sun shone through the white marble.

Unfortunately unlike white marble travertine marble is completely opaque, so even taking the thickness of the 'shell' to 10mm (3/8 inch), even a 100 watt bulb was insufficient to allow even one photon to escape.

So now it's just a decorative item serving no other purpose than as an ornament and an occasional sleeping venue for Diesel, our Turkish Angora/Van Cat.
